The first Sheriff of Midland County was D.G.W. Whitney. He served as Sheriff for 4 years from 1855 to 1858. Midland had two Sheriffs who served in the Civil War between 1861 and 1865. They were Sheriff Benjamin F. Keating, who attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant during the Civil War and served as Sheriff from 1869 to 1870. Jerome W. Blackmar's highest rank attained during the Civil War is unknown and he served as Sheriff of Midland County from 1893 to 1896.
