The occupants of the fatal crash that occurred on July 28th have been identified. The driver was 30 year old Daniel Patrick Hill of Mt Pleasant. His passenger has been identified as 53 year old Mark Troy Goltowski of Shepherd.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one car crash that claimed the life of a 30 year old Isabella County man and his unidentified passenger. The crash occurred at approximately 8:45 pm on July 28, 2015 in Midland County’s Lee Township at the dead end of South 9 Mile approximately ½ mile north of Stewart Rd.
Evidence at the scene indicates that the driver was northbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer on South 9 Mile north of Stewart Rd. The driver failed to stop at the end of the road, drove over a street sign, through some heavy brush and landed upside down in the Chippewa River in approximately 2 ½ feet of water. Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene by Chief Medical Examiner J. Daniel Cline.
This incident remains under investigation. While speed appears to be a factor in this crash, we are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if the use of drugs or alcohol were involved.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lee and Homer Township Fire Departments, Mid Michigan Health EMS, and a Conservation Officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
