June 14, 2022 UPDATED: NEWS RELEASE

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of Clifford Granger, a 56 year old Jasper Township male.  The crash was reported at 10:33pm on Sunday, June 12, 2022 and occurred on West Shepherd Road just west of South Lewis Road in Jasper Township.

Our investigation indicates that the 56 year old man was driving a red and black 2018 Polaris RZR eastbound on West Shepherd Road when he tried to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway.  The male hit the deer with his ORV, which resulted in his vehicle leaving the roadway, colliding with a ditch, and then overturn.

Evidence indicates that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt or a helmet at the time of the crash.  The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are awaiting toxicology reports for a final determination.

Midland County Sheriff’s Office personnel were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police 3rd District Accident Reconstruction Team, St. Louis Fire Department, MyMichigan EMS, and the Midland County Medical Examiner.
