The Midland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving a side by side UTV that claimed the life of a 58 year old Breckenridge, MI man. The incident took place on Sanford Lake approximately 300 feet from shore near Anna Lane, in section 26 of Edenville Township. The crash occurred at approximately 11:52 PM on January 16, 2018.
Our investigation indicates that the driver, Randy Myers, age 58, was driving an orange Polaris Ranger XP900 and was heading northbound on Sanford Lake. The UTV went through the ice. A resident in the area saw the incident and called 911.
Edenville Township Fire Rescue was able to remove Mr. Meyers from the lake. He was then transported to MidMichigan Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Midland County Dive Team is working with Coles Wrecker to remove the UTV from the lake.
The incident is still under investigation. A report will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review once it has been completed.
The Midland County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Edenville Township Fire Rescue and MidMichigan Medical Center EMS.
