NEWS RELEASE - 11/16/2017
The Midland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a two vehicle, head on fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of a 68 year old Beaverton woman. The incident took place on East Saginaw Road east of North Meridian Road in Lincoln Township at approximately 8:45 am on November 15, 2017.
Our investigation indicates that the driver, Rose Esz, age 68 from Beaverton, was driving her red 2008 Chevy HHR, westbound on East Saginaw Road. She then crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound grey 2017 Chevy Equinox that was being driven by Courtney Musser, age 34 from Sanford.
Mrs. Esz was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland (MMMC) where she was later pronounced deceased. Mrs. Musser and her 7 year old son and daughter were also transported to MMMC with non life threatening injuries.
Both drivers appeared to be wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crashes and air bags deployed in both vehicles. Both children were in child restraint systems.
While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination. This report will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review once it has been completed. The Midland County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Lincoln Township Fire Rescue, Jerome Township Fire Rescue and Mid Michigan EMS.
