Commissioners Support Effort to Help Low Income Residents
Published: February 05, 2008

Midland has a reputation for being a benevolent community. In that spirit, the Midland County Board of Commissioners has declared Saturday, February 23, 2008 as "Walk for Warmth Day" in Midland County. This official proclamation lends support to Mid Michigan Community Action Agency, Inc. and its efforts to raise funds to help low income residents with heat-related emergencies.

"Some of our neighbors have a difficult time just trying to make ends meet, and when the furnace breaks down or the gas is shut off they don't know where to turn for the extra money to take care of the emergency," explains Sharon Such, a Walk for Warmth 2008 Committee Member.

Commissioners, in their proclamation, recognize the need to help underprivileged members of our community and the dedication of the committee that is leading this fundraiser. For years, Commissioner Rose Marie McQuaid has raised money for this cause by participating in the walk. Commissioner Howard Schoenherr plans on walking for the cause this year. Such says all funds raised for "Walk for Warmth" go to Midland County residents and "allows us to help people who might otherwise fall between the cracks."

If interested, phone the walk's sponsor, Mid Michigan Community Action Agency, at 832-7377 or by e-mail at

Fitness buff Howard Schoenherr plans on participating in the fundraiser.
