The Midland County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash that claimed the life of two youths on December 28th, 2007 at approximately 3:12 pm.
Based on witness statements and evidence collected at the scene it appears that Joseph Piteau of Harrison was traveling eastbound on Saginaw road when he lost control of his 1998 Oldsmobile 88, crossed the centerline and struck a westbound traveling 1998 GMC Sonoma pick up driven by 24 year old Eric McKinnon from Beaverton. The collision caused Piteau's vehicle to spin further into the westbound lane of Saginaw road where it was struck by a westbound traveling 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Kyle Partlo aged 17 from Midland.
The two victims who were pronounced dead at the scene have been identified as Brandon Kenneth Shorkey aged 14 from Harrison, and 12-year-old Christopher Allen Piteau of Midland. The injured passengers in Mr. Piteau's vehicle have been identified as Judith Piteau aged 46 and Karl Goebel aged 13 from Harrison. They were transported to by Midland EMS to Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland for treatment.
Kyle Partlo was also injured in the crash and was transported to Mid Michigan Medical Midland for treatment.
Eric McKinnon and his passenger Matthew Haynes aged 24 from Beaverton were not injured in the crash.
This crash remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review once it is completed.
