Major Duties of the County Clerk

1 As County Registrar of Vital Records, issues certified copies of Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates and Death Certificates.
2 The Clerk is the keeper of the Circuit Court Seal for the certifying of all County documents; some 275 different documents or papers require said seal.
3 As Clerk of the County, is the agent for process of service.
4 Records all Co-Partnership Certificates and Assumed Name Certificates.
Records all Veterans’ discharges from service.
6 Oversees insurance coverage for all County employees who are a Notary Public.
7 Records all Notary Public bonds.
8 As Clerk of the Board of Commissioners, presents all communications to the Board and prepares all minutes.
9 Maintains all books and records for the County Board of Commissioners.
10 As Clerk of the Gun Board, prepares all gun permits, clerks said Board and issues permits when approved.
11 Serves as Secretary of the Midland County Plat Board.
12 As Clerk of the Jury Commission, prepares all minutes, prepares typewritten list of names drawn to serve on the Jury Panels for all Courts. Draws all Circuit Court prospective jurors from the pool of names selected by the Jury Commission.
13 As Chief Election officer for the County, prepares and supervises elections (Elections Commission: Probate Judge, Treasurer and County Clerk).
14 As Clerk of the County Election Canvassers, assists in canvassing the votes cast and prepares all certifications and minutes.
15 Responsible for the filing of various forms and reports with the State of Michigan.
