The Midland County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department is responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of an enterprise GIS. Pursuit of this objective is accomplished using a variety of means, but critical elements in the process are a variety of GIS related technologies. GIS technologies provide tools that can improve the services of many county departments.
Current GIS activities in Midland County involve building the "foundational" elements such as parcels, digital orthophotography, addresses, transportation and the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) corners. In addition to application and data development, creating an understanding of GIS through presentations and education will allow users to fully utilize GIS as a resource for their applications.
GIS efforts in Midland County benefit county departments, private entities, other government organizations and the citizens. These benefits are realized at several levels such as enhanced public service, improving access to public information, providing spatial awareness to currently used databases, and improving the safety and well being of the citizens of Midland County.
