Birth, Death and Marriage Information

Birth Records
Birth records for births occurring in Midland County are available beginning the year of 1867. In order for the birth record to be on file in Midland County, the birth must have occurred in Midland County.

Birth certificates are not public records. They are confidential records and available only to the person or parents of the person named on that record. Additional documentation will be required of applicants stating they are an heir or legal guardian of the person named on the record.

A current, valid driver's license or state issued ID, for identification purposes, is required for birth certificate requests.

Certified copies, with the raised seal, are $14.00 for the first copy. Each additional certified copy of the same record, requested at the same time is an additional $6.00.

Marriage License
Men and women 18 years of age and older may contract marriage in Michigan without parents' consent.

For purposes of marriage application, residency is determined by a current valid driver's license/state issued I.D.

  • If one or both applicants are a Michigan resident, they apply in the county where either applicant lives. The license is valid throughout the state.
  • If both applicants are out-of-state residents, they must apply in the county where they plan to be married. The license is valid in that county only. (Please contact the Midland County Clerk for further information.)
  • If either applicant is under the age of 18 and has attained the age of 16, written and notarized consent of one parent or legal guardian, who must appear at the time of application, will be required.

Additional information or documentation may be required before this office will complete the marriage license application.

Fee per couple: $20.00 -- Michigan Residents

Fee per couple: $30.00 - Out-of-State Residents, Must apply in the county the marriage is to take place in.

The marriage license becomes valid on the 3rd day following application.

The Marriage must be solemnized within 33 days of application.

Marriage licenses are filed in the county of application. Your request can be processed ONLY if the marriage license was APPLIED for in Midland County, Michigan. The first certified copy, with the raised seal, is $14.00. Each additional certified copy of the same record, requested at the same time is an additional $6.00. You may request marriage records in person during regular business hours or you may send a written request. Please include the following when requesting via US Mail:

  • Name of male at time of application
  • Name of female at time of application
  • Exact or estimated date of marriage
  • Number of copies requested
  • Please include a check or money order payable to:

Death Records

Death records for deaths occurring in Midland County are available beginning with 1867.
